History

The resort and golf course were originally developed as Kimberland Meadows (named after Meadows Valley pioneer and trapper – William Kimberland, who traded with the Indians in the Valley during the 1870′s). The Simonson family, who had lumber interests in California, acquired the property in the early 1980’s. Development of home sites commenced in 1981; the 18-hole golf course officially opened in 1983.

In 1989 Kimberland Meadows was owned briefly by a California businessman, and a second developer, and then transferred to a San Diego & McCall hotelier/developer – “Papa” Doug Manchester.

Two additional phases of the original development were sold off – now known as The Highlands, and, Little Salmon River Estates. In the Manchester-era the name was changed to MeadowCreek, initially intended to be operated as a private club – MeadowCreek Golf & Field Club. Some of the smaller lots were combined and Phase 3 developed. The Osprey swimming pool complex was built and the Clubhouse was remodeled in 1992. The Fairways condos were part of the resort and were available for rent. Under Manchester’s ownership many improvements to the golf course, clubhouse and pool facilities were completed in hopes of developing a private and exclusive club. When sales failed to materialize, the resort and remaining improved and unimproved property was put up for sale at very attractive prices.

The property was purchased by the McNeal Family Partnership, of Boise, who took over resort operations and the final phase of development. Under the McNeal ownership, the River Ranch Properties were sold, Hole #2 was relocated to east of Hot Springs Road, and the Village Cottages were developed. In addition, 20 lots were added on the west side of Hot Springs Road. By the end of the McNeal ownership, all 500 lots had been sold, with 225 homes already built. The 20 lots associated with the Village Cottages and approximately 5 acres of unimproved land were transferred to Hopkins Financial Services.

In June 2011 the resort property including the golf course, Osprey complex and maintenance facilities was purchased from Hopkins MeadowCreek LLC by the MeadowCreek Resort Association. The goal of the MCRA is to preserve the resort amenities for the residents of MeadowCreek, in perpetuity.

In the early years there was full time security, an equestrian center, horse-drawn hayrides in the summer and sleigh rides in the winter. During the Simonson’s ownership there were snowmobile and cross-country ski rentals. Manchester added a trap-shooting range and groomed cross-country ski trails that were lit at night; residents and guests would ski then go to the Clubhouse for wine and chili in front of the fireplace.

The resort, although privately owned by the MeadowCreek Resort Association, is open to the public – all are welcome and encouraged to enjoy the facilities. The MCRA intends to restore and maintain amenities including golf, swimming, tennis, fish-pond and winter nordic sports activities.

The MeadowCreek Golf Resort facilities include the ProShop, the Osprey Complex with snack bar and heated swimming pool, tennis and pickleball courts, as well as the 18-hole golf course, driving range, practice chipping green and practice green.
